Timeless, Sustainable, Beautiful.

Our mission is to create timeless gardens that are as beautiful as they are sustainable. We strive for expertly designed native, drought tolerant (water-wise) gardens and classic kitchen gardens—using tried and true garden design principles.

In addition to garden design and installation, we can help with maintenance or garden coaching. We also grow our own selection of harder-to-get drought tolerant perennials.

More about Fotheringham Gardens:
Operating out of the First Fotheringham House, a Victorian-era historic landmark in the Browne’s Addition neighborhood of Spokane, WA, Fotheringham Gardens is owned by Rebecca Monteleone (me!).

I’ve been an avid gardener for more than two decades. I’ve focused on natives and sustainable gardening techniques since the beginning, after receiving my Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Washington.

My goal is to make it easy for more people to have beautiful gardens. To that end, we offer a range of services and can complete projects of many different sizes—or just provide support and expertise through coaching while you get what you need to take your garden to the next level yourself.

I like to blend classic garden styles with water-wise, native and other beautiful plants that thrive in Spokane’s climate, creating gardens that serve humans and nature alike. English cottage, Arts & Crafts, and contemporary Northwest gardens are some of my favorite styles, but each project is unique and responsive to its local site and context.

One of my favorite things: growing our own drought tolerant plants, which can be harder to find in a lot of nurseries. Growing plants from seed and hydroponically on-site in Browne’s Addition is a joy and also gets me the deeper knowledge of plants that comes in handy when designing with a specific plant palette.

In addition to perennial gardens, we’ve developed Kitchen Garden designs and a seasonal planting guide specific to Spokane. You can get your own Kitchen Garden and start enjoying food out of your garden, within weeks. In fact, Fotheringham Gardens is a certified Garden Consultant with Gardenary.
